If you need a day off from alpine skiing or want to try other activities, a winter holiday in Wagrain could be just right for you. Wagrain offers plenty of other winter activities:
Freestyle: Did you know that Austria’s largest freestyle park, Absolut Park, is just around the corner in Flachauwinkel-Kleinarl? Freeriders from all over Europe flock to this freestyle park to showcase their skills. At Grafenberg, you’ll also find the new Funslope, which consists of 30 different obstacles spread over 600 meters, offering something for all skill levels. Additionally, Wagrain Winter World has created a beginner snow park with ski trails and tunnels, where even the youngest can get their first freestyle experiences in this ski playground.
Off-Piste: If you’re lucky enough to experience fresh snow on your ski holiday in Wagrain, there are many opportunities for off-piste skiing between the slopes in Wagrain. Alternatively, you can take a trip to Zauchensee or Flachauwinkel, where you can have a great off-piste experience.
Cross-Country Skiing: Wagrain is also a popular destination for cross-country skiers, as all trails have both a classic track and a skating track. The Tauern Trail, the trail past Jägersee, and the loop between Wagrain-Kleinarl are must-tries. It’s also possible to try cross-country skiing on Wagrain’s beginner loop or book lessons at one of the local ski schools to get started. It’s a really cozy sport that the whole family can enjoy.
Ice Skating: The ice rink at the water park’s parking lot opens at 2 PM every day during the winter season. With lights extending late into the evening, you can enjoy a skate even after dinner. Skates can be rented on-site, and a small kiosk sells snacks and drinks. Regardless of age, it’s fun to take a spin on the ice to good music!
Tobogganing: Wagrain offers many scenic trails that become fantastic toboggan runs in winter. Remember, however, that tobogganing on the ski slopes is not allowed—it can damage the slopes and poses a danger to skiers. For an extra adventurous experience, you can take a trip to Kleinarl. Here, you can either walk or take a snowmobile up to Kleinarlerhütte, where you can taste Austrian cuisine before heading down on a rented toboggan. The toboggan run is 7.5 km long and offers an exciting descent of 700 meters in elevation on a car-free route. It’s guaranteed to bring laughter, no matter your age!
Wasserwelt – A Large Water Park in Wagrain: After a long day on the slopes, you can relax and recharge at Wasserwelt Wagrain if your legs are feeling a bit sore. This large water park offers both indoor and outdoor heated pools, five water slides, and a sauna, so there’s something for both big and small. The best part is that there’s free entry when you stay in one of AlpenTravel’s apartments or chalets.
