SKI AREA

For many years, Wagrain has been a preffered favorite for many families with kids. In 2013, the G-link lift opened, which now connects the two mountainsides Grafenberg and Griesskareck, which means that Wagrain is now well connected with both St. Johan and Flachau, and has resulted in the possibility of long day trips.

Wagrain offers skiing for all ages and levels, and is undoubtedly the obvious place and a clear favorite among many families with children. The area offers large and wide slopes, which provide the perfect start for both beginners and children. In addition, Wagrain also offers snow parks for the playful teenager and children’s funslopes, which will undoubtedly be a hit among the youngest in the family. For the more experienced skiers, there is many opportunities to improve the carving swings on the fantastic wide slopes, which Wagrain has plenty of. You have a full 350 kilometers of fun in the Salzburger Sports World.

If you want to discover more of the area, you can take the ski bus to Kleinarl, from where you can ski to Flachauwinkl, and visit Austria’s largest snow park, Absolut Park. From the bottom of Flachauwinkl you can hop on the ski bus, which will take you across the motorway to Zauchensee in minutes. In Zauchensee there is opportunity for superb skiing, as well as trying out Zauchensee’s World Cup piste.

Even though you only need 20 centimeters of snow to ski, Wagrain has fully hedged itself against lack of snow. In Wagrain they can open 90 % of their slopes by only using snow canons with temperatures up to +2 degrees.

THE CITY

After a day full of skiing, you can take a trip in Wagrain’s water park, Wasserwelt, where the kids can romp on the slides or swim outside in the heated pool, which offers a fantastic view of the beautiful mountains.

Wagrain is a cozy little town that offers several cozy and good restaurants, where you can get either traditional Austrian food, a large steak or Italian food. Many people connect ski holidays with glühwein and après-ski, and here you can advantageously visit Kühberg Alm, at the foot of Grafenberg after finishing the ski day, where there several days a week are live bands that creates a good atmosphere. If the day ends at Flying Mozart, you can visit Kuhstall, which also offers good après-ski, and a wonderful big a sunny terrace in the right weather conditions.

CROSS COUNTRY

If you are more into cross-country skiing, Wagrain is also an obvious destination, as the area offers a full 220 km of cross-country skiing tracks. There are both tracks for the beginner and for the more experienced.

Tauernloipe

The great cross-country skiing experience in the Salzburger Sportwelt is undoubtedly the Tauern track, which runs from Wagrain and 50 kilometers throughout the Salzburger Sportwelt. The Tauern track offers both light and medium tracks. The special feature of the route is that it connects six cities in the region and that it is possible to enter the route from all cities. All the smaller local tracks in the region are connected to the Tauern track. Along the route there are several different resting places.

Jägerseeloipe

Another fantastic trip is the trip from Wagrain to Jägersee, which takes you through Kleinarl. The tour takes you around the stunningly beautiful and protected landscape at Lake Jägersee. The trip is about 10 kilometers long and is classified as being moderate.

SKI SCHOOL

Ski & Snowboard Schule Wagrain have many years of experience. The skischool is located in three different places in the city of Wagrain, at the top of the Grafenberg Mountain, at Kirschboden at the Juniorland (the skibus stops directly in front of it) and at Rote 8 at the Mittelstation. The skischool has staff whom speaks several different languages.

Among other things the skischool offers:

  • Indoor ski kindergarten for the youngest members of the family
  • A large children’s land
  • Own conveyor belts
  • Lots of competent and engaged employees

Ski & Snowboard Schule Wagrain offers a ski kindergarten for all three- and four-year-olds, who are not yet quite ready to attend a real ski course, and may not be completely comfortable with the skis and the surroundings. The ski kindergarten is 2,5 hours every day, filled with lots of fun like playing in the snow, which is used to make the kids comfortable with the snow landscape and the equipment. The ski kindergarten is available both at Grafenberg Bergstation and at Flying Mozart.
