You can choose guided hikes or family-friendly trails. There are also routes perfect for trail running and altitude training at elevations between 1,650 and 2,200 meters.

Weißpriach: Named the most beautiful natural area in Salzburgerland and the 3rd most beautiful natural area in Austria on an Austrian TV show. It is part of the UNESCO Biosphere Park Salzburger Lungau.

Millstätter See: There are many hiking options around Millstätter See. We recommend “Das Granattor am Millstätter See” for its unique combination of natural beauty and historical significance. After a hike, you can take a dip in Millstätter See, whose water is so clear and clean that it qualifies as drinking water.

Prebersee: Visit Prebersee, an enchanting moor lake in Lungau, offering both peaceful walks and more challenging hikes.

Cycling in Katschberg

Whether you prefer challenging mountain bike trails uphill or leisurely rides along the Salzach River, the area has something for everyone.
One particular highlight is the stage of the famous “Tauern Cycle Path” from St. Johann im Pongau/Schwarzach to Werfen. It’s a family-friendly route that follows the Salzach River through the valley. Along the way, you’ll find informational signs with local stories, playgrounds, and swimming pools, making the journey even more enjoyable for kids.


Fishing in Katschberg

Fishing with atmosphere in the Katschberg Lieser-Maltatal region. From clear mountain streams to alpine lakes, everything a fisher’s heart desires! From April to September, you can fish in the Lieser stream (from Pölla to Rennweg).

Fishing permits can be purchased at the tourist office in Rennweg for €40 (day pass) and €5 for a control pass (1 week). A maximum of four fish per person is allowed.

You can also join a guided hike with fishing and dining on freshly caught fish in Pöllatal. The hike leads through Pöllatal to Kochloffelhütte, where you can fish in the hut’s private pond. The caught fish will then be freshly prepared in the hut for you to enjoy. The guide is free, but the e-choo-choo train ride and the fish must be paid for.

Golf

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a professional or a beginner – the well-maintained 18-hole golf course in St. Michael provides ample space for a truly unique golfing experience. Surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, the golf course with its spacious training facilities is situated in Salzburg Lungau.
