Heilstollen is a health center where radon therapy is used to treat various chronic diseases. Heilstollen is undoubtedly something very special and one of nature’s unique treasure chambers.
The treatments take place inside the mountain in a 2.5 km long tunnel, where there are different levels of radon, depending on where in the tunnel you are. The tunnel was originally dug in the hunt for gold, as Gastein had previously been known as Europe’s gold chamber. Therefore, in the 1940s, they came up with the idea that they would dig into Radhausberg in the hope of finding large quantities of gold. Instead of gold, thermal water was found within the mounatin. The thermal water had been working through the underground for hundreds of years, creating small crevices and gorges from which the radon water vapor could rise.
The combination of warm and humid air enriched with radon heats the long tunnel inside the RadhausBerg mountain, allowing you to experience some form of therapy that you cannot experience anywhere else in the world. Some of the scientifically proven benefits of radon therapy include prolonged pain relief and, in some cases, even complete cessation of pain, reduced need for medication and immune stabilization.
