6 Summer activities in wonderful Alpendorf

Maybe you associate Alpendorf with a skiing holiday, but it offers much more than that. We highly recommend summer holidays in Alpendorf because it is a very family friendly city. Therefore we’ve gathered 6 summer activities in the Salzburger Sportwelt area that you and your family or friends hopefully find interesting!

1. Hiking in the alps

The Salzburger Sportwelt area is known as hiker’s paradise and you’ll find more than 1000 km of marked trails. A hiking trip is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beyond beautiful nature while you’re active. Numerous cable cars run all day long and will bring you into new adventures. Also, many huts and restaurants are open during the summer – take a break and enjoy a cold drink after a sunny hike.

For a family with children we recommend the Geisterberg amusement park also known as the Ghost Mountain where you can combine hiking and fun experiences. The hike begins at the end of the Alpendorf Gondelbahn and is marked as easy. This is a 4,5 km hike in the Alps, where along the way you’ll find more than 40 playgrounds and entertainment activities for the children: 4 ghostly worlds, water games and air swings. If you bring small children it is also possible to drive with the small tractor train to Geisterdorf.

A great experience for the whole family and for sure an adventurous day on the mountain.

In Hahnbaum, close to Alpendorf, you can discover the forrest from above. Jody’s Tree trail takes place 20 meters up in the air – a funny experience for both small and big climbing enthusiasts. It is a climb through a route of stops and playgrounds. It is possible to choose between 4 routes according to levels of difficulty.

You are guided through the 30 stations, along with Jody and Joey – the clever owl and the cheeky squirrel. These two characters will both do challenges and activities with the children, while learning about nature in Alpendorf. It’s a win-win.

3. The Liechtenstein Gorge

You must visit the impressive Liechtenstein Gorge if you’re going to Salzburgerland during the summer! It is also very close to Alpendorf.

The gorge is 4 km which makes it one of the longest and deepest gorges in the Alps. Along the route you’ll find several small waterfalls and the large Liechtenstein Waterfall at the end. You’ll also experience the “Helix staircase“, a spiral staircase that rises up to 30 meters into the depths.

We recommend that you visit the gorge in the morning or in the afternoon. In the high season it can be very crowded in the middle of the day.
